The foothills region of Eastern Himalayas and the adjacent plain area in North-eastern India is widely known as Dooars. Dooars range covers an area of 8800 sq km and a large part of it holds dense vegetation with variety in wildlife. This area is formed with the whole area of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar district and some area of Koochbehar in West Bengal and Dhubri, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Barpeta district in Assam. Major rivers like Brahmaputra and Manas and minor ones like Teesta along with Torsa, Sankosh, Jaldhaka, Raidhak etc. continuously fertile this area.
The name of Dooars came from the word ‘duar’ meaning door in the local languages. It is named so because this area serves a purpose of a gateway between India and Bhutan with 18 passages connecting these two countries. Also there is a narrow corridor near Siliguri town which is the only road access towards Northeast India from the rest of the country.
A very dense and mysterious part of Dooars jungle lies in Jalpaiguri district, known as Chilapata Forest. The interesting things here are the ruins of Nal Rajar Garh and the trees around it, spilling blood-like liquid.
The National Park of Jaldapara is wildly famous for being the home to Indian one-horned rhinos. It is a suitable region for researchers, photographers, wildlife lovers to be amongst the various ranges of flora and fauna.

Gorumara National Park is a medium sized park. In 2009, it was announced as the best along all the protected areas of India. The park is a home to 50 species of mammals, 194 species of birds, 22 species of reptiles etc and trees of Indomalaya ecozone.
The tiger reserve of Buxa in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal is spread along the Indo-Bhutan Border. It is used as a corridor for Asian elephants to travel between India and Bhutan. You can also go for visiting historically important Buxa Fort and Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Mandir.
In the Mainaguri subdivision of Jalpaiguri district, there is a very old temple of Lord Shiva, known as Jalpesh Mandir. This 350 years old temple celebrates a grand festival and fair in the month of Shravan according to Hindu calendar, during monsoon.
Malbazar is a sub-divisional town and municipality of Jalpaiguri district. It is located in the eastern part of Dooars range with tea gardens, small hills, Balaji Mandir, Buddhist temple and such attractions for tourists. The town is also a hub for accommodation and food for the tourists in Dooars.
